Company Leadership

Rei Nakamura — Founder, Lead Forecaster, and Managing Member
Rei founded Nippon Predict in 2022 after six years as a regional forecaster at the Japan Meteorological Agency. He holds a Master's degree in Atmospheric Science from the University of Tokyo and is responsible for all forecast methodology, model development, and strategic direction. Rei splits his time between Seattle and Tokyo.

Sarah Kim — Co-Founder and Technical Director (non-member manager)
Sarah joined as co-founder in 2022. She holds a PhD in Civil Engineering from MIT and leads our data science, model implementation, and technical infrastructure. Sarah is based in Seattle full-time.

Business Activities

Nippon Predict LLC is engaged in the following business activities: (1) development and publication of weather forecast information for Tokyo, Japan, with emphasis on microclimate modeling and district-level predictions; (2) provision of meteorological consulting services to businesses operating in Tokyo; (3) sale of digital products related to weather forecasting and urban climate analysis; and (4) related research and development in urban meteorology.

We do not provide official meteorological warnings or severe weather alerts. Our forecasts are informational and educational in nature, intended to supplement rather than replace official forecasts issued by the Japan Meteorological Agency and other government meteorological services.

Regulatory Status

Nippon Predict LLC is a private commercial entity. We are not a government agency, not a public utility, and not a licensed meteorological organization under Japanese or US law. We source our meteorological data from publicly available APIs (primarily Open-Meteo) and apply our own analytical methods to improve spatial resolution. We do not operate weather observation stations or radiosonde equipment.

We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA), the US National Weather Service, the World Meteorological Organization, or any other official meteorological body. Where we reference JMA data or model output, we do so under the terms of the JMA's open data policy and the Open-Meteo API terms of service.

Tax Registration

Nippon Predict LLC is registered with the US Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and holds an Employer Identification Number (EIN). We collect and remit Washington State sales tax on digital products sold to Washington State residents. We do not collect VAT, GST, or consumption taxes for sales to customers outside Washington State, though customers may have obligations to self-assess use tax in their jurisdictions.

Banking

Our primary banking relationship is with Chase Bank, N.A. (Seattle branch). Our Japan operations maintain a JPY-denominated account with Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (Shibuya branch) for local operating expenses.
